Couples Therapy
"All of us from the cradle to the grave, are happiest when life is organized as a series of excursions, long or short, from the secure base provided by our attachment figures."

-John Bowlby, A Secure Base (1988)
Relationships are at the core of the human experience. They are often the source of our greatest joys and triumphs, but also our deepest fears and experiences of loss. To be human is to carry a longing for intimacy and connection which can be disrupted by painful experiences of trauma, discrimination, grief, fear, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. All to often, the difficult experiences in life can lead to our withdrawal from others, a sense of loneliness, and disconnection from loved ones, and ourselves.
My hope for each individual I work with, as well as for our greater society, is to heal the ways in which we relate to others, to build deeper connection, community, and joy. In my couples work, I utilize Emotion Focused therapy (EFT) to help couples who come to me feeling disconnected and estranged, develop deeper understanding of the source and pattern of their distressed interactions. Over the course of therapy, couples build awareness and acceptance of internal emotional experiences that drive interactions that leave them feeling stuck. The ultimate goal of EFT couples therapy is to help partners learn new ways of interacting that help them rebuild intimacy and a sense of togetherness so they are more able to navigate life's obstacles as a supportive team.
